Central Coast Catholic schools dance up a storm at National Story Festival
Central Coast Catholic primary schools have performed strongly at the National Story Festival, also known as Wakakirri. Consisting of six story-based competitions for both primary and secondary schools, Wakakirri is Australia’s largest multi-arts event attracting over 600 entries. MacKillop Catholic College, Warnervalereceived the NSW Primary Division 1 Silver category award. Titled The Dog's Secret, the imaginative performance centred on an art gallery where the pictures come to life every twelve years. Holy Cross Catholic Primary School, Kincumber put in a spectacular performance in the NSW Primary Division 2 competition (for schools who have previously made the state finals) to take out a Silver category award for their performance Sibling Rivalry, a story of twin sibling storms fighting to prove who is the strongest. The students from St John the Baptist Catholic School, Woy Woy put in an energetic performance in their competition debut. Their performance The Wizard of Dahl tells the story about Dorothy who gets swept up into another storm, going to the land of Roald Dahl, visiting the scenes of his books. The Wakakirri National TV Special will be broadcast in December, with national prizes awarded on the evening. There will be many excited students on the Central Coast hoping to catch a glimpse of their performances. It will be an exciting evening for performing arts on the Central Coast and a wonderful achievement for the Diocese of Broken Bay to celebrate.
