Mrs Klara Hollestelle-Watson, Director of Music

National Excellence in Teaching Award for teacher at Mater Maria Catholic College, Warriewood

 

The Mater Maria Catholic College community again have reason to celebrate the achievement of one of their teachers. Mrs Klara Hollestelle-Watson, Director of Music was recently awarded a prestigious NEiTA ASG Inspirational Teacher State and Territory Award. The Award, now in its fourteenth year, recognises excellent teachers across Australia and New Zealand who play a major role in influencing the lives of Australia’s young people. This is the second consecutive year in which a teacher from Mater Maria has been awarded a NEiTA National Excellence in Teaching Award. Klara was nominated by parents from the college community.

Through quality teaching in Music, Klara Hollestelle-Watson has created a reputation of musical excellence at Mater Maria. In 2007, all but one of Klara’s students received a HSC music course mark higher than 90 per cent. As well as pointing to Klara’s outstanding expertise in music education, this remarkable achievement illustrates the passion for music that she has engendered among her students.

With high expectations for her students, Klara utilises the latest in music technology to facilitate student achievement. She currently coordinates more than 45 ensemble and solo performances each year to maximise the performance opportunities for all children.

Best wishes to Klara who is now eligible to progress through to the next phase of the awards at the National level. Selected from the ASG Inspirational Teacher State and Territory Awards recipients, ten teachers will receive National Awards commemorated with a NEITA award and a professional or project development grant of $5,000. One National awardee will be selected as Australia’s Inspirational Teacher to participate in the International Space Camp held in Alabama, USA, in July 2009.
