Broken Bay Hosts Annual International Learning and Teaching ICT Conference on the Central Coast

The Diocese of Broken Bay co-hosted the seventh Annual International Learning and Teaching ICT Conference with the Navigator Schools Consortium (Navcon) from 2 – 5 October on the NSW Central Coast.

The event was held jointly at St Joseph’s Catholic College and St Edward’s College, East Gosford, where the beautiful waters of Caroline Bay provided the backdrop for a rich educational experience for some 350 participants across Australia, including a large contingent from New Zealand.

The theme for the conference “generation.com – Where to next”? set the scene for all delegates. The conference had a K to 12 focus and showcased the impact of technology on student learning, contemporary learning environments and virtual schooling. Throughout the three day conference, delegates were challenged and encouraged to apply Web 2.0 technologies in the classroom to make learning more accessible and relevant to the 21st century student.

Over ninety spotlight and workshop sessions were offered, including three engaging keynote addresses by Dr Yoran Harpaz (Israel), Leigh Blackall (New Zealand) and Dr Adam Lefstein (UK). A significant number of workshops were offered by teachers from Broken Bay Diocesan schools and on two occasions our students participated in workshop presentations.

Two social events, the Welcome Reception held at the beautiful Edogawa Commemorative Gardens (Japanese Gardens) on Tuesday 2 October and the Conference Dinner held at the Central Coast Leagues Club on Thursday 4 October provided further opportunities for delegates to network and share their own vision of learning and teaching.

The conference evaluations were testimony to the tremendous success of the conference, and indicative of the great possibilities for the learning and teaching of “generation.com…”
