Renowned educator leads principals mentor coaching program

 

On Friday 28 October, 27 principals from the Broken Bay and Parramatta Dioceses officially completed their ‘leading learning’ mentor coaching programs with internationally renowned educator David Eddy, Executive Director, UACEL, Faculty of Education, The University of Auckland.The principal mentor coaching program is a joint initiative between the Dioceses of Broken Bay and Parramatta, and aims to develop the knowledge, skills and capabilities of beginning principals to support their successful leadership.

The program involved first-time principals being matched with an experienced principal as mentor. The principals developed a professional learning plan and goals with a focus on developing effective educational leadership skills. They had access to online mentoring and also experienced in situ visits and a shadowing program for half a day in each of their schools.

In recognising the successful completion of the principal mentor coaching program, David Eddy acknowledged Catholic Education’s investment in leadership programs.

‘Not everyone is putting the time or resources into developing their leaders,’ said Professor Eddy. ‘We know that good leaders make a difference to teacher quality and student learning,’

Director of Schools, Br Tony Whelan cfc AM (Broken Bay) and Executive Director of Schools, Greg Whitby (Parramatta) presented the principals with their certificates of completion.

Professor Eddy has extensive experience in the design and delivery of professional learning opportunities for educational leaders and has authored many articles and journals.
