Social Justice Innovation Award for St Paul’s student
St Paul’s Catholic College, Manly Year 11 student Matt Bartlett has excelled in the Charles Sturt University “Making a Difference Social Justice Innovation Award”. As one of the four major winners, Matt’s task was to write an engaging story, poem or script that creatively addressed a contemporary issue of social justice. The competition was open to anyone between the ages of 15 and 21 attending high school or TAFE. The task allowed students to write about a fictional or non-fictional issue, no longer than 1000 words. Matt’s submission titled Silent Shout was a fictional account of a teenage girl dealing with the loss of her hearing. With a passion for entertaining and inspiring people by telling stories, Matt hopes one day to become a film director. Matt enthusiastically submits works into competitions like this as it allows him to build up his portfolio as well as giving him a broader scope to areas outside of school. Congratulations go to Matt not only for his initiative in entering the competition but also because he was one of the four major winners for the NSW-based competition. In addition to the $250 prize for Matt, Charles Sturt will also make a donation of $250 to the charity of Matt’s choice, Kidney Research Australia. |
