Broken Bay Teacher wins 2008 Frater Travelling Scholarship.

Mrs Fran Taylor of Corpus Christi Catholic School, St Ives has been awarded the prestigious Frater Travelling Scholarship by the Australian Catholic University.

The Scholarship rewards and recognises teachers within the NSW and ACT Catholic systemic primary school system who display leadership qualities and a commitment to the continuing development and enhancement of the school system.

Fran Taylor will use her scholarship to attend the 14th International Conference on Thinking at the University Putra in Malaysia. This long standing international conference was inspired by Dr Edward de Bono and this year’s theme ‘Thinking minds: Nurturing the design of a better future’ will consider the way forward in educating students for a future very different from our past.

Mrs Taylor also hopes to visit schools in Victoria that have developed inquiry based learning units in association with Kath Murdoch, an experienced teacher, author, university lecturer and highly regarded educational consultant.

School principal Mrs Maryanne Carrick is “delighted that the scholarship has been awarded to such a dedicated teacher. Fran Taylor is a very deserving recipient and we are looking forward to her applying learnings from the International Thinking Conference here at Corpus Christi”.

Fran Taylor is the third recipient of this scholarship in recent years from the Diocese of Broken Bay. Previous winners were Elizabeth Calabria and Suzan Hirsch.
