Catholic Early Learning Centres to open in Broken Bay

 

Catholic Early Learning Centres will open in February 2011 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic School, Terrigal and Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic School, Forestville with financial assistance from the Australian Government’s Building the Education Revolution program.  A third Early Learning Centre will open at Lake Munmorah a little later.

The Catholic Early Learning Centres are a joint project between the Diocese of Broken Bay Catholic Schools Office, the primary schools, Centacare Catholic Family Services and the parishes.

The Catholic Early Learning Centres will be open to children aged 3-5 years, and will be purpose-built and located in the parish and school precinct on Serpentine Road, Terrigal and Currie Road, Forestville.

“This is an exciting opportunity in Broken Bay to branch out into early learning,” said Brother Tony Whelan, cfc, Director of Schools.

A feature of the Early Learning Centres will be their play-based curriculum and their partnership with parents during these all important early years of development.  A part of the Catholic School System, the Early Learning Centres will also support parents in nurturing their children’s spirituality.

Br Tony said, “Having the Early Learning Centres on school grounds will ensure a natural transition to the first year of school. For parents of children already in the primary school, the drop-off and pick-up to and from pre-school and school will be a lot easier.”

With the Federal Government introducing universal access to early childhood teaching for all four-year-olds in Australia, places in pre-schools and day care facilities will be in high demand. The Our Lady Star of the Sea and Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Early Learning Centres will each make 60 places available per day.
