The Context of Catholic School Administration

Catholic systemic schools in the Diocese of Broken Bay are administered by the Diocesan Schools Board and the Catholic Schools Office. There are diocesan nominees on the Catholic Education Commission (NSW) and the Catholic Commission for Employment Relations (CCER) which liaise with the NSW government on education, school and employment issues. The Diocesan Schools Board

The Diocesan Schools Board was established by the Bishop of the Diocese of Broken Bay to assist and advise him with regard to the overall operation of Catholic schools within the Diocese.

In carrying out this responsibility, the Board is charged with two primary functions:

  • to develop and foster a vision for Catholic schools, consistent with the diocesan vision, which will enable them to respond to the Church's mission by offering educational services and opportunities in an atmosphere of Catholic faith and practice, designed to nurture the formation of the whole person and to foster a just society
  • to develop, support and resource this vision through the provision of long-term strategic planning for the key elements within the Diocesan education system - including finance, faith development, educational programs, facilities, accountability and marketing. In its long-term planning, the Board is responsible for establishing, monitoring and evaluating priorities, goals, outcomes, broad policies and guidelines necessary for the smooth operation of all elements of the system.

Membership of the Diocesan Schools Board

The Diocesan Schools Board is chaired by the Bishop of the Diocese of Broken Bay, Bishop David Walker, and consists of the Director of the Catholic Schools Office, Parish Priests, parent representatives, consultants in education and finance, a CSO Primary and Secondary consultant, a Principal of a Diocesan Congregational School, systemic Primary and Secondary schools and other senior CSO staff.

The Diocesan Schools Board is supported by three committees comprising CSO office, school, parish and parent representatives. The three committees are Educational Services, Mission Services and Financial Services.
