CASTnet at Home

Students can securely log in to CASTnet from home if they have Internet access as provided by their own Internet Service Provider (see diagram below), and access their personal e-learning portal (mydesktop), personal e-mail portal (mymail), class e-learning portal(s) (myclasses) and personal e-learning portfolio (myportfolio - 2006/2007). However at home, students will not be able to browse the Internet via CASTnet's secure, filtered broadband connection as provided at all CASTnet connected schools.

It is important that parents are aware that when students access CASTnet from home or another remote location, CASTnet's safety and security measures for browsing the Internet do not apply.

Potential uses of CASTnet at home include:

  • the support of learning and teaching opportunities beyond the classroom
  • access to quality assured, worldwide educational resources and online learning opportunities beyond the classroom
  • extended communications within and across schools, dioceses and the wider community beyond the classroom.

It is recommended that parents supervise their children on the Internet at home and install filtering software. More information on filtering, including a list of "Family Friendly Internet Service Providers", can be found at NetAlert - The Australian Internet Safety Advisory Body.
