Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Parents

The Catholic Schools Office considers the educational and social needs of Aboriginal students to be of critical importance. Therefore it offers support and assistance to Aboriginal students and their parents in a range of ways through its Aboriginal Education Officer and Aboriginal Education Assistant.

The Aboriginal Education Assistant is based in several schools on the Central Coast and is available to support Aboriginal students in those schools. The primary focus of the Aboriginal Education Assistant's work is to support Aboriginal students to improve their educational outcomes, to monitor the progress of these students and to work in partnership with parents to ensure they achieve their full potential and aspirations.

The Aboriginal Education Officer is also available to support parents of Aboriginal students. Some of the areas where the Aboriginal Education Officer can be of assistance are:

• Advice on enrolments
• Advice and support with students experiencing educational or social difficulties
• Advice and support with any school related issue
